The Kalona Historical Society is sponsoring a special program on Haymaking 1840-1879 at the KHS Visitors Center at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 22.
Steve Weeber will be giving the story of how the contributions of William Louden to the dairy industry compared to John Deere and Cyrus McCormick to grain farming. Louden’s contributions include the introduction of hay carrier equipment into American barns. During the course of his life, Louden was awarded 18 patents.
There will be time for questions and sharing personal stories about haymaking.
There will be a freewill offering with proceeds to support exhibits in the new Wahl Museum.
