tour the community
Did you know that Kalona is home to one of the largest Amish settlements west of the Missiissppi? Over 1,200 Amish people are scattered just north of Kalona and congregate at nine different churches. People in this area are a mixture of Old Order Amish and Mennonites, the former of which is very rigid on the use of any type of technology.
You can learn much more about the Amish lifestyle on our ByWays Countryside Bus Tour or by stopping at the Kalona Historical Village, which is home to a Mennonite museum and other old world artifacts.
Kalona is also recognized for its diverse and eclectic shops. From antiques to custom furniture, you’ll find it in Kalona. A recently renovated and highly walkable downtown awaits visitors from near and afar! Click a link below to start planning your adventure in Kalona.
