The Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce
The city of Kalona is located 15 miles south of Iowa City perfectly nestled into the rolling countryside of southeastern Iowa, The city’s rich cultural heritage dates back to the late 1830s when pioneers began immigrating from the east. The Amish arrived in 1846 when Iowa gained statehood. The city was formally incorporated in 1870 during the booming expansion of the Burlington, Cedar Rapids, and Northern Railway (BCR&N).
Kalona is now better known as the “Quilt Capitol of Iowa” boasting a plethora of stores dedicated to preserving the art of quilt making. We’ve taken the title seriously, too, which is apparent through over 40 quilt designs paved into the downtown streetscape. The quaint downtown center features one-of-a-kind dining options, locally-owned antique and craft shops, and longstanding service establishments.
The Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce represents over 70 area businesses. Our mission is to promote and advocate for our members with the intention of strengthening the local economy. We serve as a catalyst for growth through local and regional advertising, the advancement of economic assets, and through leadership for special events and community initiatives.
The Chamber also serves as town’s central hub for visitor’s information. With expert knowledge of the attractions and businesses serving the area, the Chamber Visitor’s Center should be your first stop in Kalona.
On behalf of the Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce, welcome to Kalona! We’re glad you’re here.
