Get-r-done.

I am what you would call a get-r-done girl, doing whatever I need to survive. Yard needs attention and I didn’t communicate to my husband correctly to do it, I’ll get it. Kid needs a ride to baseball, and my husband isn’t home yet. I’ll get it. I see a business in need of professional photography, videography, or visual help for their online presence, I got it. That is how I got here at the Kalona Chamber of Commerce.

I create, make, record, write, capture, sell, market, listen and repeat this process all over again— fixing things along the way. I do have one caveat to my approach though… I have a motto… It is better done than perfect. Am I embarrassed to admit that I have had days my work is imperfect, or unfinished to my expectations….? Well, yes and no. Yes because I have that mild case of perfectionism… (seriously, I once cleaned my friends house with a toothbrush to get deep into her carpets) And no, because I am realizing that my ways of perfect are not always what others consider perfect and I can deliver to my clients what they are needing/asking for without wearing myself to the bone.

Lightbulb Moment!

Instead of feeling as though I might be shorting myself of quality, I made some habits. I needed to TAKE ACTION and get-r-done, the best way I now how and I think you should know those habits as well!

HABIT #1: Post Every day.

At least until you establish which times your audience is engaged with your posts. It becomes a habit and then all of a sudden you brain can commit to later on in your schedule to make your social media game a priority. Post something engaging like a story about yourself, or perhaps you have strong opinions on the market you are in. Post something that is educational! I totally raise my hand at stopping on posts that have historical facts about my industry, or even the town I live in! Post something funny. What is a meme that fits your industry or a good Dad joke… my husband is definitely one to throw in the good classic Dad jokes and now has even rubbed off onto my son. Finally, either take your own GOOD photographs or buy them. You are looking for quality here. I know a great photographer in Iowa (wink wink, it’s me with Playlife Photography) but if you don’t want help planning your photographs BUY that canva upgrade. SO crazy worth it to make your posting life easy and breezy.

HABIT #2: Engage Every Day

Sometimes the best way to get those new people in your market is to BE ACTIVE. I like to apply the 10x rule. You MUST give out what you can GET BACK. Engaging with others at least 10 times more than what you want to receive. Umm, and also, let’s be real, friends…. no more pyramid emails that go out to our facebook contact list to message spam in our DM’s that ask for a sale. Pay attention to people and what they are posting, what they care about, what they are accomplishing… and give them praise about it! “Hey girl, I see you got that novel done! Good for you!” Or another example, “Hey friend, your little guy looks so excited about baseball. I am so glad I follow you guys!”. Get involved with people and you will be on their minds. One more thing before I sign off…

Leave it at that.

Don’t say “ Hey friend…blah blah blah (insert your engagement here)…then say, oh yeah, just wanted to remind you I am selling that thing you didn’t know you needed.” Leave that part out, and focus on the relationship. They will come to you soon, and even if they don’t, your name is a sweet taste they can refer rather than those friends that say, Did Suzie message you again about hosting a party for her Avon?

If you are ready to commit to these two simple habits… ready to grow and create action for your business this year, comment and say, “Yes, I’m In!”
